The Play! option has the user play with the toy which fills one Happy unit. The toy will refuse the option once the meter is full. The Touch! option has the user hold the toy which fills one Affection unit. Pressing the A button opens the main menu, with the first option for the interaction menu, and the second option for the games. If the Happy meter is full and the Affection meter is not empty, the character will perform a Close Up. If both the Affection and Happy meters are not empty, but the Happy meter is not full, the character will perform a happy animation. A dizzy spiral signifies an empty Affection meter, while a cross sign signify an empty Happy meter. The user can press the C button for an animation to see what it needs. If either becomes empty, the character will call for attention to fill them. The Affection meter decreases by one unit per hour, and the Happy meter decreases by one every 50 minutes. The character is cared for by filling its meters they have Affection and Happy meters, each consisting of four units, which are both empty at the start. There are no on-screen icons, and therefore all information is conveyed through the screen and buttons. The toy may then evolve into another character if certain conditions are met. After 24 hours, Woody will evolve into a different toy depending on their quality of care and which games are played. The user must regularly play with their character and keep them clean from dust as poor care will lead to the character getting sold at a yard sale.Īfter setting the clock, Andy will hand over Woody to Bonnie and the user will be tasked with caring for him. Without Etch, we’d have no creativity, no guidance, no map to Al’s Toy Barn. He's even figured out a way to physically move, a true and only slightly unsettling miracle of life.Įtch may have once threatened to fully hang Woody from gallows (huge red flag, to be honest), but overall, he’s been a team player and the magnetic lineographic glue that holds the whole ensemble together. He can read you better than you can read yourself, but he’s not above erasing his opinions and hearing what you have to say. He’s a great listener and an even better transcriber. Etch is everything you could want in a life partner: his humor is swift and witty ( have you even seen him quick-draw?!). He’s the Picasso of Pixar, the Fisher King of the Fisher Price demo, the fastest knobs in the west and the most necessary toy in Andy’s room. Several Toy Story players have real-life counterparts, but arguably none are as familiar or generally bad-ass as Etch.
